Swimming Pools

The Erindale swimming pools and surrounding gardens are in an excellent location to relax and enjoy the water on a summer day. The lower pool is the warmer of the two while the top pool often has the best shade in high summer. Remember the decking can be quite hot with the sun on it, so remember to put a towel down before sitting or laying down.

As with all shared facilities, it’s also a great way to socialise with your neighbours and meet new friends.  We do ask you to show some consideration for other people using the pool and the nearby residents. Follow these simple rules and guidelines (the safety standards fromLifesaving Australia and for outdoor public pools) to ensure everyone gets to enjoy the pool in safety and comfort:

Safety:

  • children under ten years of age are to be constantly accompanied by an adult while in the aquatic area (the adult should be prepared to go in the water if required)
  • ensuring children under five years of age are constantly supervised by an appropriate parent/ guardian who is prepared to swim (adequate supervision means the parent/guardian must accompany the child in the water and always remain within arm’s reach)
  • unsupervised children under five years of age are to be removed from the water and placed in a safe area until collected by the parent/guardian
  • unsupervised child of poor swimming ability, regardless of age, are to be removed from the water
  • diving, running and hypoxic training are not allowed
  • flotation devices must be removed from the pool when there is no supervision of their use (visibility is impeded). It is recommended they not be used if you deem the pool to be busy (Children do drown in busy pools)

Good Pool Behaviour

  • The pool is open from dawn until 9pm each day. If it’s early or getting late then be the good soul and keep the noise down.
  • Noise can easily become an issue for adjacent residences and there are lots of them nearby. Children are asked not to shout and scream. The neighbour doesn’t want to join a game of Marco Polo for the fifth time this week or check every few minutes to see if somebody screaming actually needs rescuing.
  • Residents and their guests are welcome to enjoy the pool. We’ve seen visitors from Melbourne use the pool in winter – really!
  • Use sunscreen and put it on 5 or 10minutes before swimming. It works better and less of it gets into the water and clogging up the filters. It’s costly to have the filters cleaned.
  • Glass and other breakable objects are not allowed in the pool enclosure. Nobody wants the pool closed because of broken glass in the water.
  • All hair pins and clips are to be removed before entering the water – they fall off and some of them rust and leave stains on the pool.
  • Radio volumes should be left at a reasonable level (see Noise above).  Please lower the volume if requested and remember that no matter how cool your musical taste, the chances are somebody else has a different opinion.
  • Any rubbish should be removed from the property – no bins are provided.
  • There are no toilets at the swimming pools, please return home if the need arises. Keep a special eye on the younger children as things happen.
  • Have fun!
