Moving in or out – Then please read this!

Moving in or out can be stressful and knowing your responsibilities and what to do can do to be thoughtful and help a lot. Here’s what to do and what not to do.

Do:

  • Plan ahead! There can be a lot of work to be done.
  • Consider the size of any moving trucks you might be using (height and length) and anticipate if it can get where you need it to and where it might park.
  • Ensure all your keys (including pedestrian gate and letterbox), fobs and the remote are passed to the new owner or their Agent. It is surprising how often this does not happen.
  • Be courteous to your neighbours. Let them know that you are moving, particularly if it is possible somebody may block truck access.
  • Dispose of your own waste, even if it takes some extra effort. You should have access to City Council Waste Coupons.
  • Ask the Grounds person for an extra bin (as soon as you can and not on the weekend as they are not working). It is often possible to provide one!
  • Leave your bins empty. The new resident will need access to bins immediately.
  • Empty your letter box and change your address if necessary.

Don’t:

  • Prop open external gates and doors to expedite move at any time for any period. It can and has damaged them! Callouts for repairs can be expensive.
  • Block access for other vehicles. You just know it is going to make somebody cranky.
  • Dump any materials including unwanted furnishings and clothing outside your unit nor on the street outside the complex. It just makes it the problem for somebody else (often a resident) to clean up and that’s just unfair and thoughtless.
  • Overfill your council bins. They won’t empty them and then we have another problem.
  • Damage external surfaces such as driveways, pathways, fences and gardens including trees/flowers/bushes during the moving of goods into and out of townhouses.

Brisbane City Council rubbish dumps are located at the following locations and are open between the hours of 6:30am and 5:45pm every day including public holidays:
