The Erindale Community Garden is run by volunteer residents, for the townhouse community.  Established in 2022, the garden covers approximately 400 square metres and grows more than 40 different varieties of edible plants, including salad greens, vegetables, herbs, fruit, companion, butterfly and insect attracting plants.

Our goals are:

  • to encourage community involvement, allowing people with sometimes diverse backgrounds to work side by side investing time and effort in their own neighbourhood;
  • to produce healthy and abundant food to share between residents of the townhouse complex;
  • to create opportunities for learning by working within a team to share knowledge and skills;
  • to create a safe space for children to visit, play, and learn about nature and the responsibility of caring for plants;
  • to beautify the landscape and increase the value of the property by creating a green, healthy living space where residents and their families can gather; and
  • to relieve stress by slowing down and connecting with nature, increasing physical activity and mental wellbeing by taking part in a fun and productive enterprise.

The vegetable garden and fruit grove are located on the easement located at the south-west corner of the residential complex.  Communal growing areas are established where resident volunteers and casual helpers work together to grow and harvest produce to be shared by all residents at the complex.

Compost bins are situated at the south-western entry to the garden where residents may drop kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves, juice pulp, shredded paper and other suitable substances to help create nutritious compost for use in the garden.

A collection bin is also located in the south-western corner where residents may drop eligible empty bottles and cans for recycling.  All monies earned will be used to offset the costs of running the community garden.
